The Battle of Quinte:
Rivalry, Recognition, and the Return of Hockey to The Dunc
After a week of snow, cold winds, and the post-holiday return to the grind, the DUNC is calling. This Friday night, the Trenton Golden Hawks return home for more than just a hockey game; they return for a mid-season showdown with playoff implications and a historic moment of recognition for one of the region’s most dedicated hockey figures.
A Rivalry Renewed
The Wellington Dukes are in town, and in the OJHL East, it doesn’t get much bigger than this. This marks the second of four meetings this season between the two titans. While the Dukes took the first matchup, the Golden Hawks are currently riding a scorching six-game winning streak and are looking to even the season series.
With the “Push to the Playoffs” officially underway, these two points are critical. The Hawks are fighting to maintain their momentum and prove that the road to the Buckland Cup still runs through Trenton.
Honoring a Legend: Don Cotton
While the action on the ice will be fierce, the most significant moment of the evening will take place at center ice. The Trenton Golden Hawks are proud to host a special presentation for Don Cotton, a man whose name has been synonymous with Quinte-area hockey for over 40 years.
Don is the recent recipient of the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) Crystal Puck Award, an honor reserved for those who have made outstanding contributions to the sport. For over 30 years, Don has been a pillar for both the Wellington Dukes and, more recently, the Trenton Golden Hawks.
“Don has spent decades behind the scenes ensuring that junior hockey thrives in our region,” says the Golden Hawks organization. “To have him receive the Crystal Puck Award in a building filled with fans from both Trenton and Wellington—the two communities he served so faithfully—is exactly how a legend should be honored.”
The Ultimate Night Out
After a first week back to work and school, and a stretch of classic Canadian winter weather, there is no better way to kick off the weekend.
-
The Atmosphere: We are expecting a “Packed House” at the Dunc.
-
The Kin Club Bar: The bar will be open for those looking to enjoy the game with a beverage.
-
The 50/50: Our legendary draw will be in full swing—someone is going home with a heavy pocket!
-
The Puck Drop: 7:30 PM sharp.
Whether you are here for the rivalry, the playoff push, or to stand and applaud a man who has given 40 years to the game we love, Friday night is the place to be.
Get out of the cold and into the heat of the Battle of Quinte.
