DEREK SMITH – Coach and General Manager

Derek Smith has a strong resume as both a player and behind the bench.  The 38-year old Belleville resident is a married father of two and a professional hockey player of 10-seasons.

He is a graduate of the Quinte Red Devils AAA program, a former Captain in the Ontario Junior Hockey League, and spent four seasons at Lake Superior State University.  His career included time in the KHL in Russia, the NLA in Switzerland, the American Hockey League and the National Hockey League.  In the NHL, Smith played 94 games between the Calgary Flames and Ottawa Senators.  In 2010-11, Smith was part of the AHL Calder Cup winning Binghamton Senators.

Smith began coaching in the Ontario Junior Hockey League in 2017-18 and was in the role with the Wellington Dukes for two years, followed by two years as Head Coach. He added the General Manager title 2022-23.

TODD REID – Director of Hockey Operations

Todd Reid is a Stirling-Rawdon native and played his hockey at the OJHL level and university hockey at Guelph. The 49-year old has a background in education.   He was an Associate Coach with the Trenton Golden Hawks in 2017-18.  He has also served as an Associate Coach at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, the Quinte Red Devils AAA program, and the Wellington Dukes.  He most recently served as General Manager of the Cobourg Cougars.

KRIS NEWBURY – Associate Coach

Newbury returns for his second year with Trenton, after helping lead Trenton to the OJHL Championship series. The 41-year-old lives in Belleville and has an OHL title with the 1999 Belleville Bulls under his belt. He played 75 games in the NHL with Toronto, Philadelphia, Detroit, and New York. He was a 2006-07 AHL All-Star.

TYLER LONGO – Associate Coach

Longo has both OJHL and OHL experience as a player, so his ability to relate to players is second to none.  Longo is a former player at Brock University in CIS (2001-02) and knows that the young athletes in the OJHL are looking to make it to post-secondary hockey and education.  He has also served as a Director of Personnel and Associate Coach in the OJHL.  He is a local product to the Quinte area as well

LEAH TOFFELMIRE – Athletic Therapist

Leah Toffelmire is a Certified Athletic Therapist with the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association. She has worked full time in the OJHL since 2016. She works hard to prevent and rehabilitate injuries so the players can perform at their best. As an athletic therapist, Leah has been a staff member on teams at the national championship as well as with Team Canada East at the WJAC, winning a silver medal at each event.


ROB RIDGLEY – Director of Scouting

Rob Ridgley is a Kingston native, and a 60-year-old married father of two.  He played his minor hockey in Kingston and was a former member of the Ernestown Jets Jr C Hockey Club.  He has held most every position in junior hockey, including Coach, Assistant Coach, General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Scout, and Director of Scouting.  He has worked in the AAA loop, the CCHL, OJHL, USHL, and QMJHL.

CHRIS McLEAN – Equipment Manager

“Mackers” passion within the hockey industry exceeds over 35 years.  McLean has sharpened skates, worked in sporting goods, as an on-ice official with minor hockey and the Ontario Hockey Association, and an off-ice official with the American Hockey League’s Belleville Senators.  In 2018 McLean worked in the role of equipment manager with the GHawks.   He says he is looking forward to forward to working with players to reach their goals This year I once again join the Trenton Golden Hawks organization as a full-time Equipment Manager.



TIM DURKIN – Director of Business

Tim Durkin is a married father of two, who calls Quinte West home.  The 38-year-old has lived in the Quinte region most of his life and works for Quinte Broadcasting as well.  His experience in the past includes play-by-play for the Belleville Bulls, Wellington Dukes, Trenton Golden Hawks, Host of the Belleville Senators, and is currently the Morning Show Co-Host of Rock 107 and News Anchor for CJBQ, Mix 97, Rock, and Quinte News.

JOHN RACIOPPO – Security/Volunteer/Off-Ice Officials Coordinator

John was born and raised in Scarborough and is a proud married father of 2 boys.  His family calls Belleville home.  Racioppo works/volunteers closely with both the Hockey Operations and Business Team with the Hawks.  He also works as an Off-Ice Official for the Belleville Senators and with the Frankford Huskies.
