TRENTON’S TOFFELMIRE REPEATS AS OJHL ATHLETIC THERAPIST OF YEAR

March 31, 2025, Mississauga, ON –

Leah Toffelmire of the Trenton Golden Hawks is the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Athletic Therapist of the Year, the league announced today.

It’s the second year in a row Toffelmire has won the award.

Toffelmire, 31, was the therapist for the OJHL’s Wellington Dukes for seven seasons before moving down the 401 to the Golden Hawks ahead of the 2023-24 season.

She was on the staff of Team Canada East the past three seasons, winning silver medals the first two years at the World Jr. A Hockey Challenge.

“It’s a lot of fun and quite the honour for Hockey Canada wanting me back every year,” she said, “plus hearing good feedback from them has been nice.”

Toffelmire is a Certified Athletic Therapist with the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association as well as a Registered Massage Therapist with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. She studied at Sheridan College and the Ontario College of Health and Technology. Toffelmire completed her certification in Neurofunctional Acupuncture from McMaster University.

The Trenton resident works at Momentus Athletics, a performance and rehabilitation centre in Belleville that is also the off-ice home of the Golden Hawks.

“I’m quite blessed to be able to work with my team full-time,” she told the OJHL. “I’m thinking that being able to see my guys every day and touch base with them on their rehab really does make a difference.”

Toffelmire spent last summer working with AHL and OHL players, including NHL draft picks, at the facility.

“I was able to up my abilities and standard of clinic work to a higher level,” she said. “It’s been really fantastic and a great opportunity for me and for my growth.”

She’s on-call with the Belleville Senators, too, usually working with players left home while the AHL team is travelling.

Toffelmire’s Golden Hawks are hosting the Stouffville Spirit in Game 5 of their East Conference semifinal series Tuesday night.

Toffelmire will be honoured along with the other OJHL award recipients at a ceremony during the OJHL Championship Series in April.

The OJHL is announcing its 2024-25 award winners throughout the first three rounds of the playoffs.
