The Trenton Golden Hawks have acquired another goaltender, right at the trade deadline.
Director of Operations Todd Reid says, “With the injury to Ben Bonisteel, the club felt it critical to find a second goaltender capable of sharing the load with Brady Spry.”
The GHawks acquired Samuel Ivanov from the Soo Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League. Most recently Ivanov was with the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks playing university hockey (C.I.S).
“Ivanov is a big body in the net, and we are thrilled to welcome him into the fold,” says Reid. “At 6’3, he is someone who covers a lot of the net, plays his angles well, and brings maturity on and off the ice.”
The Richmond Hill native just turned 21 and appeared in six games this season with the Ridgebacks. He had 77 regular season games over two seasons with the Greyhounds in the OHL.
“Ivanov has played against the best of the best of his age group in the Canadian Hockey League, not to mention facing big, fast, talented players this season. C.I.S is incredible hockey and we know that will be a great feature to what he brings to the team.”
Ivanov was a fourth overall pick in the 2020 U18 OHL Priority Selection.
