The Trenton Golden Hawks will be active in the community this week, beginning Monday with an appearance at Dairy Queen in Trenton from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. as part of the United Way fundraising kickoff event.

Players will be serving ice cream, signing autographs and meeting with fans throughout the event.

Two dollars from every DQ Blizzard sold will directly support United Way Hastings & Prince Edward, which is aiming to raise $2.5 million. The organization currently supports 39 agencies and 43 programs across the Bay of Quinte region.

On Saturday, the Golden Hawks will take part in the Trenton Military Family Resource Centre’s Community OP Welcome Event, running from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Players will be on hand to meet with military families, play games and take part in the afternoon’s activities.

The Golden Hawks began their regular season schedule this past weekend with a pair of high-scoring road losses.

After taking an early lead, the Golden Hawks battled back throughout the game Friday night in Lindsay before falling 8-7 to the Muskies in overtime, earning a point in the loss.

Trenton was back on the road Saturday night, travelling to Westwood Arena to take on the Toronto Patriots.

The Golden Hawks were unable to get into the win column, dropping a 7-4 decision to last year’s Buckland Cup champions.

The weekend saw 14 players make their Golden Hawks debuts, while Liam Fisher, Evan Norris, Ryan Foley and Charlie Gage each scored their first career OJHL goals.

Trenton sits at 0-1-0-1 with one point in the standings, but will play three of its next four games at Duncan McDonald Memorial Gardens.

Despite the results, the Golden Hawks showed plenty of offensive production throughout the weekend, scoring 11 goals in their first two games. Nine different players found the back of the net, while 13 players recorded at least one point.

Kale Mace leads the club in scoring with five points through two games, while Hayden Jeffery and Nolan Nicoll both saw action over the weekend.

The Golden Hawks will host the Stouffville Spirit on Friday night for their home opener.

Tickets can be purchased online or at the box office during posted business hours.
