The Trenton Golden Hawks are going to have two representatives take part in the 2023 Eastern Canada Cup All-Star Challenge next week.

The Ontario Junior Hockey League announced the rosters for Team Hawerchuk and Team Oates.

Defencemen Dillon Stiles was named to Team Hawerchuk.

“I’m really excited to represent the team, especially with the tournament here in Trenton.  Didn’t really know what to expect, but as soon as I saw that it was here, I made it a goal to myself to make the team.”

He says there are a lot of NCAA and NHL scouts attending, but he says it is important not to focus on them.

“Yeah, obviously they watch all year and there’s lots of big events throughout the year, but this is definitely important for all that stuff.  I always try to think that that stuff takes care of itself.  As long as I play how I want to play, play my role.”

Trenton Forward and Belleville native Corbin Roach was also named to Team Hawerchuk by the OJHL.

“No, it was unbelievable. Obviously I am extremely excited and it’s just a bonus that it’s here and I can play in front of the team and the family and some friends can come out and watch.  Definitely extremely grateful, but it’s just awesome.”

He says it is an opportunity to get noticed.

“Definitely just putting my foot out there, one step further and closer to getting to where I want to go and it just makes it a lot easier with that many eyes.”

Trenton Head Coach Derek Smith says he is proud of the accomplishment for both players and is excited to watch them in action.

The Eastern Canada Cup All-Star Challenge brings together all star teams from the Ontario Junior Hockey League, the Central Canada Hockey League, Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League, the Quebec Junior League, and the Maritime Junior Hockey League.

Also participating in the tournament is former Golden Hawk Robbie Rutledge, who is playing for the Maritime Junior Hockey League.  Ben Albright of Napanee also played two games for the GHawks in 2021-22.   Jacob Kovacs is with an NOJHL team, he played 8 games with Trenton in 21-22

Former Trenton Golden Hawks Head Coach Marty Abrams will Coach a CCHL club, while Peter Goulet and Josh Hardiman will be bench bosses for an NOJHL club.
