We begin at the National Junior A Hockey Championship in Calgary, where the Trenton Golden Hawks drew first blood.

The G-Hawks won 5-4 in O.T. against the Northern Manitoba Blizzard.

Captain Corbin Roach, who had a three-point game, tells Quinte News the Blizzard were a great test.

“They were a great team and they came out hard.  One of the hardest working teams we’ve faced all year.  Just to battle them off, a little bit of ups and downs throughout the game. Obviously got the first one under our belt and it’s great so we’re going carry it into game two.”Roach tells Quinte News the focus is to maintain composure throughout a long tournament.

“Not getting too high or too low, sticking with it no matter what happens.  There’s going to be ups and downs and as long as we stick with it, we’ll be good.  Just getting some rest, just to be able to be healthy for the whole thing.  Hopefully bring the win home.”Trenton gets two points for the overtime win, while the Blizzard grab one for the loss.

The Golden Hawks are right back at it Friday afternoon, as they take on the Kam River Fighting Walleye, the winner of the Superior International Junior League.

Puck drop is set for 2:00 p.m. EST, with a viewing party at the Duncan McDonald Arena Hall.
